So as a social worker, wow it still hasn't sunk it I have a degree yet, and a graduate student, I have been learning how much power these two little words have.  Self-care in a nut shell is taking the time to take care of yourself.  Although it is used a lot in helping professions it also is so important everyone to take care of themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually.  I always thought that it meant you had to have a hobby you enjoyed or take relaxing trips.  Oh how quickly I have learned differently!  Self-care can be as simple as taking a shower or for me, starting to write on here more.     I look at it this way, we are like cars.  When we have a full tank of gas we can go where we need to, but when our gas runs out we are stuck.  We are the cars and self-care is our gas.  Everyday we work and give to others we are using gas.  After awhile there is just no more left to give and we burnout.  By taking time for ourselves by doing something we love we will never run out and be able to continue giving to those around us.  Ok, so my self-care is reading, watching movies, and laying in bed all day.  Not very exciting, but very helpful when I feel like I just can not go to another Research class without having a nervous breakdown.  So lovelies what do y'all to do to take care of yourselves?

Something Wicked This Way Comes...

So, being a graduate student has been throwing so many kinks in my already less than exciting life.  I have been unable to visit any "haunted" places, which is a yearly tradition, due to a big project I'm working on, and I wasn't able to have my Halloween party due to having class till 10pm on Halloween.  Needless to say I was sad.  Halloween has always been one of my favorite "holidays".  You get to dress up and be someone you're not for a night.  I guess Cinderella really played with my head as a child!  Anyways,  my friend stole me away last Saturday and took me to see my favorite movie of all time... Rocky Horror Picture Show.  I know it's cheesy, but how could I not like it?  There are aliens, men in drag,  and of course singing.  It's a trifecta of awesomeness.  I had a blast there was singing and dancing.  We threw toilet paper.  Fun was had by all that attended!  Also, since I had class Halloween night and was unable to "dress up" I decided to turn up the nerd a bit and were my Star Wars Boba Fett inspired dress by Her Universe.  They brand does such a great job of giving girls other options besides t-shirts to show there love for certain fandoms.  So lovelies,  did any of y'all do anything amazing this Halloween?
Yes, I decided to dress up as Columbia!

It's Fall Y'all...

So my favorite time of year has come back around!  I absolutely love Fall.  The colors, the cool weather, and football.  Being an intern at a high school allows me to be a huge kid again, and go to the football games.  I love it!  There is something about sitting in the bleachers, cheering on a great group of kids.  It made me so sad that last night was our last home game of the season.  Our team has done so well this year compared to others.  Plus, the guys have worked so hard.  It was also a special night because one of our coaches is fighting Leukemia.  Our school had a "black-out" night in honor of Coach Essary.  He is such an amazing man and I am so glad I am able to work with him!   So glad to be back with y'all and excited to see what all comes up in the next couple of weeks.

P.S.- Tomorrow I'll be posting about the fun had at the Rocky Horror Picture Show midnight showing I'm going to tonight!

The Summer Slumps...

Well I have been gone for awhile.  This summer has been pretty hard on me for some reason.  The hubby and I are still trying to have a little one and it is not coming along at the speed I was hoping.  I did get into graduate school after waiting three months to hear anything back from them, which I suppose is amazing news.  I have been really defeated these last couple of months and just quit writing to all my lovelies because I never had anything fun, exciting, or what I felt was relevant to share.  I guess today as I was cleaning up around the house I came to the realization that I do this for me first.  I always felt better when I was writing on my little bit of the internet.  I felt like I was doing something proactive by getting what I wanted to say out there into the world whether it be what i enjoy or something more profound.  So I guess what I am saying is I think I'm back.

I'm Back...

I think my hiatus has been long enough at this point and I am ready to put back on my blogger hat and start typing up some posts!

A couple of updates... I am officially a college graduate!  Yay, I never thought I would make it but I did and I have the fake diploma to prove it!  More on this topic tomorrow!

I am still not pregnant although I have been back to the doctor.  I start my first round of Clomid this month though and I am excited!

I really cannot wait to get back into the swing of things here at Southern Ramblings because I have really missed sharing with all my lovelies and hearing what all of y'all have to say.  So for those of you who has stuck it out with me through these last couple of months thank you!

Harry Potter Fix Pottermore Week...

Week 25

I really like Pottermore, but I really don't have the time to play on it that I would like!  I joined when it was brand new and I'm just now getting to Chamber of Secrets!  Yeah I know I am a slacker!

-I am HazelDust31226
-I was sorted into Ravenclaw (of course!)

-My wand is Maple
-10 in
-Unicorn Core
-Quite Flexible

-I am absolutely horrible at dueling!

-I'm almost done with The Sorcerer's Stone

I think that I play Pottermore to keep my HP Withdraws at bay.  It does have a lot of fun facts scattered through out but you have to do a lot and spend so much time finding them.

Harry Potter Fix...

I'm a little late but I wanted to get in on this link up so here goes...

1. Which character would you have liked to have read more about?
Well I am very strange but I would love to know more about Professor Minerva McGonagall.  She was such a strong lady and I really just adored her completely in the books.  I would love to know more about her back story such as how/when she started teaching at Hogwarts.  There are lots of other characters I would love to know more about like Luna because everyone knows she is my favorite!

2. Is there a character you think was unnecessary in the series?

I really do not have an answer to this question.  I loved all the characters and all of them really made the series complete.

My Harry Potter Fix...

Ok So I know I have missed a lot of weeks, but I am BACK!

Week 23 Questions

1. Assuming you were sorted in Harry's year, which character do you think would be your best friend? Why?
Hermoine because she would be my study buddy!  Plus I think she is completely amazing!  She is such a strong and opinionated woman just like me!

2. Which season at Hogwarts would be your favorite?
Mine would be Christmas because I am like Harry in the sense I have no family left.  I would be stuck at Hogwarts and I think that would be absolutely amazing!  I would love to be able to play in the snow on the grounds and see all the decorations, trees, and oh my gosh the food!

3. What class do you think you'd excel in most?
Defense against the dark arts!  I think t would be amazing to learn how to protect myself against a boggart!

4. Would you be involved in any extra-curricular activities at Hogwarts?
Dumbledore's army!  I would love it.  Learning how to help the cause!  DA Forever.

I Should Be Flogged...

Ok, so it has been forever since I have posted anything and I am so very sorry for this.  I never realized how demanding this internship would be.  I really hoped I would be able to keep up with my blog and do my internship but this last couple of months I have been a horrible blogger.  I put in my application for my masters and I am still absolutely loving my internship at the nursing home.  Sadly to say Joely and I are not pregnant yet, but we are still trying and I go back to the Dr. April 2nd for my first dose of Clomid *fingers crossed*.  I hope everyone one of my lovely followers haven't given up on me and I do plan to start blogging more.  My internship ends in 23 days *sadness**gladness*!  Hope everyone is having an incredible week!

So I have not done this link up in a couple of weeks and I was saddened to see the creator was not going to be doing it anymore (the link up will still exist just others will run it) yet delighted to find that the beautiful ladies that host this link up were doing a HP fashion edition!  *enter squeal here*  So I just could not resist adding my favorite Harry Potter inspired fashions to their little link up.  SO here goes nothing, these are a couple I have saved from Pinterest!  And yes I am somewhat bias on the house *cough Ravenclaw*

So I am sitting at home sick when I should be at work... so I thought I would hope on here and write a post since I have been away for such a long time.  I miss writing so much, but I just have been able to find the time or words to write these last couple of weeks.  I really haven't figured out why yet.  Hang in there with my lovelies because I hope to find my writing mojo again soon.

Bad Bad Blogger...

So I feel like a horrible horrible blogger here lately.  The hubby and I have been sick and I have been having to go to work which has left little time for anything else.  On top of that one of our best friends got married yesterday!  It has been a whirlwind of a week and although it has been rough it has also been amazing!  I have learned so much at my internship, and I am absolutely in love with all my coworkers and residents!  I hope all my lovelies have had a good week!

I Feel Like An Adult...

So I have been a horrible blogger the last couple of weeks and I am so sorry.  I have started my internship and I absolutely love it!  I am so happy I ended up at the Nursing Home.  I have however realized I don't know how to multitask!  I work for 7:30 till 5 and come home fix supper and I am ready to relax.  That leaves no time for cleaning, blogging, or even friend time *sadness*. I think this week I am going to work on becoming more adapt to the world of getting things done at night.  I have always been one to get everything done during the day and during the week so I don't have to worry about it after supper and on the weekends.  Well my job will no longer allows that, and although I am sad I knew the day would one day come!   I am have also dealt with a stomach bug sick hubby, which is no fun.  I think men have a gene in them that reverts them back to toddlers when they get sick.  I think a woman doctor should track this gene and make a bunch of money on it to saves us wives and significant others the stress of dealing with little boys during a bout of flu or other illness!  Well I guess I will end this saying I hope all you lovelies have an amazing week!  BTW I'll have to share with all of you later this week my Pinterest project I did this weekend!

Words Are Few These Days...

Thank y'all for being patient with me these last few weeks.  I have been super busy going to school seminars and getting ready for my internship I have seriously had to find time just to sleep.  I hope to be back on my blogging schedule by the end of the week.  I am so lucking to have such amazing followers!  Hope everyone is having an amazing week so far!

Oh My Gosh...

So one of my favorite bloggers and a couple of her online friends are giving away a Wii U.  Most the time I do not give into the "blog about this giveaway to get extra entries", but I just could not resist.  I have been wanting to get my hands on one of these babies since I heard they were coming out!  So here is the link and a picture of what you could win!

Scared to Death...

So I start my internship next Thursday and I am scared to death!  I'll be working at a nursing home, which is what I would love to do when I finally achieve getting my masters in social work.  I really don't know why I am so scared to start working.  I guess I'm not sure if I have learned everything I need to at school to really help people in a professional setting.  I guess I am not the only one that feels this way when they finally get to use what they have gone to school for.  I have not worked in 4 1/2 years in a professional setting due to school so it is a really different feeling for me.  I have wanted to go back to work since I started school and now that I actually get to I really don't know if I will be any good.  Well I guess that's enough being a baby!  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Happy New Years Eve Y'all...

I can not believe it is already New Years Eve.  It seems like this year has just flew by a lot quicker than in the past.  I am glad in a way this year has been not the best.  I have had many people I love pass away, I had a hard tine in school this past Spring, and hubby and I found out we needed help having a baby.  You know I am actually really glad this year is over, even though I am a year older I have a good feeling about 2013.  I don't know why and it could be just the fact that I want things to be better, but I guess that is always a start.  I haven't bee  writing as much this last week due to cramps from hell that have had me wishing I was dead!  I know lovelies TMI, but I guess that means the medicine is working.  So we are hoping to start mission make a baby this week, and if all else fails I go back to the Dr. and beg for Clomid before I got back in 3 months!  I hope everyone is planning a fun filled NYE I know we are.  Shrimp boil and friend time here in Tennessee!  BE safe and have fun lovelies!

Wow That's A Lot Of Folks...

So since starting this blog a little over 5 months ago I never imagined anyone would ever give two flips about one word I wrote, but seems as though I might have been wrong!  When I checked my stats this evening I noticed I have 101 followers.  I think I might have had several small strokes, and refreshed at least 3 times to make sure I was seeing it correctly.  Thank you all so much for sticking around, commenting, and being just plain awesome.  I never imagined I would really enjoy being part of the blogging world till I met some amazing people out in the blogosphere!  So again a huge thanks to everyone, and I hope there will be some amazing new happenings in 2013 here on Southern Ramblings!

Come on 2013...

So I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas full of lots of food, family, and fun!  Other than our heating unit going out at the house last night Christmas was amazing!  I was able to spend Christmas with both my family, and my dear hubby's mom and dad's, we had a blast at both places.  I love being able to see my family that lives away from here every year we have so much fun laughing with each other, but this year just wasn't the same.  I guess holiday's have become a little bit difficult for me since my grandparents passed away.  Even though I have my wonderful hubby, his parents, and my cousins (who I am very close to) it still just isn't the same as having your parents there.  I guess as we look more and more at the possibility of having kids it gets worse.  My kids will never get to meet my mom or dad or even my grandparents that raised me.  They will have one set of grandparents and that's it.  I am blessed to have many wonderful people that love me, and even though they may not be blood they are most certainly family!

Now to complain a bit, I have had 4 people that are close to me pop up pregnant in the last week.  One of hubby's best friends is married to my cousin, and they felt the need to call at 11 f***king PM on MY BIRTHDAY to tell us that they are expecting, two weeks after the cousin's brother announced him and his lovely wife were pregnant.  Needless to say, after calling my best friend and crying my eyes out, I accepted just because I can't get pregnant right now does not mean the baby making machine everywhere is going to grind to a stop to make me feel better.  It took me many choice words and lots of tears to come to this conclusion!  So at Christmas breakfast the following conversation takes place...

family- Jessica did you hear blah blah and blah blah are expecting?
me- yep sure did..
family- so is there anything you want to announce?
me- nope...
family- you sure?
me- *death stare*

I was not a happy camper.

So on to a little bit better *TMI* news!  I started my period... this is the 4th one I have had all year.  My husband has been less than thrilled about this, but I explained it's either grumpy Jessica or no babies.

So even though 2012 has been a rough year, I know that in 2013 I can either continue to feel sorry for myself or take control and make some changes.   This includes both the way I have been thinking and the choices I have made physically.  So I plan to make the best of 2013 and have a rocking year!

It's my Birthday...

So yes today is my 26th Birthday.  Everyone has been asking me all day what I am doing, and the answer to that is nothing!  I have a very simple life, and I enjoy it!  The hubby is taking me to eat at my favorite Mexican restaurant tonight and that will be it.  Tomorrow a couple of my friends are coming over to fix me supper and watch a movie, and I am thrilled!  I wish I could say that we were going to some exotic warm place to celebrate, but that would not be us.  I am glad that I have a day to spend with my husband doing absolutely nothing at all but enjoying his and my fur babies company.  I have never really celebrated birthdays due to it being so near Christmas and I am ok with that.  I hope that everyone is having a great week!
